Identifying Suitable Enhanced Efficiency Nitrogen Fertilizers Using a Rapid and Precise In-lab Environment-Controlled System

This project will seek to construct a rapid and precise in-lab environment-controlled system to (i) evaluate ammonia volatilization potential of agricultural fields located in West TN, in order to identify fields that are more susceptible to ammonia volatilization, (ii) evaluate the efficacy of different enhanced efficiency nitrogen (N) fertilizers (EENF) in mitigating ammonia volatilization losses to provide greater economic benefits and nitrogen use efficiency for TN farmers, (iii) evaluate how variable soil moisture around N fertilization affects the performance of EENF in N retention, and (iv) train extension agents and farmers on best nitrogen management practices as well as communicate the findings of the study to relevant stakeholders.
